Welcome to Dew Drop Childcare: Respite and Short-term Care

Dew Drop is a fantastic childcare solution that offers a safe, educational, and fun play space for every child, including children with SPECIAL NEEDS.

Dew Drop supports families by providing short-term care for all children in a caring, home environment. Dew Drop is available when you need to keep appointments, run errands, tend to business or an ailing family member, go shopping, see the doctor or dentist, or just to relax and re-energize.

Sandra's home-based play space offers many entertaining and learning activities through a mix of teacher-organized and child-initiated activities in both small group and individual settings. Play components are selected to promote cooperation, socialization, listening skills and motor development. Our days may include circle time, games, arts and crafts, sensory exploration or hands-on experiences.

Sandra is a certified elementary school teacher, with over a decade of special education teaching experience. Feel free to look her up on the Ontario College of Teachers Website. Her Registration Number is 424366.

Services

In addition to providing short-term childcare for all children, Dew Drop Child Services is a home-based respite and early intervention support service that operates for children with special needs, including medical needs (e.g. seizures), attention difficulties, speech and language difficulties, Down Syndrome, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Dew Drop Child Services creates and provides a stimulating environment. Sandra Berney, owner and operator of Dew Drop Childcare, has decided to take a break from her teaching career in order to care for her own special needs child (Dravet Syndrome, PPD-NOS). Children in Sandra's care are invited to participate in the daily fun and educational activities in which she engages her son.

As an elementary and special education teacher, Sandra believes in active, hands-on, play-based learning for young children. Children would experience both teacher-directed and child-directed activities during their short visits to Sandra's home.

During respite care in Sandra's home, children will receive professional care and education. Please let Sandra know what you are working on at home/school. Examples of what Dew Drop Childcare offers are: speech and language, cooperative games, fine motor skills (beads, pencil grasp etc.), sensory needs (playdoh, feathers, goop etc.) , gross motor work (play structure, trampoline, balls, jumping activities etc.), arts and crafts, and circle time.

An initial interview (no charge) is welcomed and encouraged to introduce each other and discuss your child’s specific needs.
